Sussex LGBTQ and LGBrighTon have joined forces to create a Trans* Day or Remembrance Day event highlighting positive steps made recently to halt institutionalized transphobia.
We will have speakers from both Brighton and Sussex and a screening of the documentary 'Southern Comfort' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6JIWD2DNyY]), which is about a prominent Trans man in the Texas community who loses his battle with cancer due to institutionalized transphobia. This is a lesser known documentary that gives an interesting insight into the trans community in Texas as well as less violent forms of transphobia that still shape the lives of many trans people around the world.
We will have a self care crafts session at the end of the event as this is a difficult topic and we will be on hand to provide information about further support if anybody feels they need it after the event.
We will meet at the Sussex LGBTQ room in Falmer house (directions can be found at http://sussexlgbtq.weebly.com/lgbtq-room.html) at 6pm. The Brighton LGBT+ officer Teddy Teddy Danger will meet Brighton students at the Falmer station bus stop (the one in sussex campus) from 5:45 to direct students. Snacks and refreshments will be provided, the room is accessible although if you do have any accessibility needs you wish to notify us of please feel free to contact us.
